I’m Alison, a native Floridian who has spent time in North Carolina, New Orleans, and New York. before I continued my love affair with the letter N and moved to the Netherlands. I spent 8+ years in Utrecht and fell in love with the city, despite never having been to Utrecht or the Netherlands before the day I moved there. It was there that I was inspired to truly start blogging, and the result is A Flamingo in Utrecht.
For the past 15+ years, I’ve been in a relationship with Giovanni (or G, as I usually call him when blogging), a native of Bologna, although it was in New York that we first met. After our time in the Netherlands, we decided to give his home city a try, which is how I find myself here in Italy now.
This may be my first time living in Italy, but it’s not my first visit. I’m an art historian by degree, though my use of that degree has been sporadic at best. However, my main focus was on the Italian Renaissance, particularly the architecture. As you can probably guess, I’m pretty happy to be in Italy.
As mentioned, I’m an art historian by degree, but I’m a writer/editor by profession, and a photographer in my dreams. Currently, I’m a freelance writer and editor. One of my jobs allows me to combine art history and writing in a regular art column for DUTCH magazine. I’m a cat lover as well as an art lover, and some of my favorite jobs have been editing the English text of the book Amsterdam Pub Cats and the English text of the City Trippin’ art catalogue for Dutch artist L-Tuziasm.
I’m a photographer in my dreams primarily, but I have managed to sell a few photos over the years. All photos in this blog — unless otherwise noted — are mine. Please don’t use them without permission. However, if you would like to use them or purchase prints, please get in touch.
All content is my own unless otherwise listed. I occasionally receive payment for some of the guest posts, but I only run them if I think they’re relevant to the blog and my own interests.
