As part of the travelling flower market, Piazze in Fiore, Bologna’s Piazza Minghetti was a riot of colorful flowers this weekend. From Friday through Sunday, flower vendors sold everything from bulbs to small fruit trees, as well as garden decorations. It reminded me a lot of the weekly Saturday flower market in Utrecht.
I was tempted by many of the flowers, despite my black thumb and general ignorance about flowers. But they were all so pretty! I was particularly tempted by the brightly colorful ones that supposedly retain their color and don’t need water. I really should have given them a try.
The one plant I did purchase, which has orange flowers, is looking like it can’t decide if it will live or die. Perhaps if I actually knew what it was, I could treat it appropriately. Oh well, it’s orange, so hopefully a few more of the buds will still be blooming in time for Koningsdag at the end of the month. (I like to collect holidays and the Dutch King’s Day is always a fun celebration with large quantities of the color orange.) If anyone knows what it is and how to treat it, that knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
So since it’s a Monday and there’s some crazy weather in parts of the world, here are some flowers to brighten your day. Best of all, these are perpetually in bloom! By the way, the Piazze in Fiore is a travelling flower market and will be in Ravenna next weekend. Check out their site for upcoming dates and locations if you’re interested.
